#light the world

Hello my dear readers,
I so meant to do this post on December 1st, but you know, life and all.   Anywho (has anyone watched the Grinch yet?  Whoville is my favorite) but, anywho, I am really excited about this opportunity for the month of December, and I want to pass it on to you.  How crazy hard is it, sometimes, to focus on the real meaning of Christmas? From the first day of November (and sometimes even earlier) we are hit with a constant barrage of "Merry Christmas, buy this" messages and fed a steady steam of commercials and social media images depicting what the "perfect" christmas should look and feel like.  It always makes me feel a little overwhelmed and under prepared. Enter the Light the World initiative as shared by the Church of Jesus Christ, a.k.a. the Mormons, a.k.a, me. This is good stuff I tell you.  Here's the basic idea.  Every day for the 24 days leading up to Christmas, the LDS church will post a different idea  to give  service with a specific message.
I know I'm posting this a little late in the game, but that's okay.  Because tomorrow, you may just be the light in someone's world that they need specifically on that day (or maybe one of the other days leading up to Christmas, or maybe even after Christmas). Example...Yesterday's challenge was, "Jesus fed the hungry and so can you".  Last Sunday I signed up to bring dinner to a family in our congregation who just had a new baby.  So last night, I had the privilege of delivering a  dinner to this beautiful young family, and of course, got to be one of the first ones to see their new baby boy. Warm dinner for them, warm fuzzies for me.  Earlier in the week, Sierra and I had the opportunity to visit another elderly member of our congregation who is in an assisted living facility.  Sierra brought her guitar and sang some songs, ending with Silent Night.  Do you think, at that moment, I was thinking about my long "to-do" list or who I still needed to shop for?  Of course not, I was thinking more along the lines of, "Dang, I wish I had a kleenex in my purse" as I felt, for just a moment, the kind of love our Savior really and truly has for all of us.

So, I would like to invite any of you that would like to participate in the Light the World initiative to join me.  You can make a difference.  You will make a difference.  I promise.
Here's the deal.

Watch the short two minute video intro to Light the World

Then visit mormon.org.
Every day a new thought will be posted with lots of service ideas to go with it.
Easy-peasy.

Last night I got to hang with all the teenagers in our congregation and hear some of their experiences with "light the world".  I heart these kids.

So, dear readers, I now invite you to join me.
Light the World!
And if you'd like to share some of your experiences, tell me about it here or my facebook page.
Much Love.
